Update on HCC COVID-19 Plans: Extension of Re-Opening Date, Update on Coleman & Fraga, & Next Steps

We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work through this evolving situation. The following summarizes the latest plans and steps HCC is taking.

HCC Re-Opening Plans

We have made the decision to extend the re-opening of Houston Community College classes to Monday, March 30 allowing faculty and staff time to complete preparations for online classes and campus safety.

  • Students should not report back to class until Monday, March 30. At that time, HCC will provide classes via online, hybrid, small group and/or by appointment, depending on the actual course.
  • Faculty and staff should still plan to return to work on Monday, March 23. The expectation is the vast majority of faculty and staff will migrate to remote work. We will issue additional guidance via email to faculty and staff no later than Friday, March 20.

 

As we approach March 30, students will hear directly from their faculty about the changes to classroom instruction for each course and a comprehensive plan will be available on the HCC website.

Update on Coleman & Fraga Academic

Coleman Update:

  • HCC worked closely with health authorities and our partners at Coleman College to determine who within our campus may have been exposed to the individual. We then immediately reached
    out to all possible affected individuals after we were notified.
  • At this point in time, the individual that possibly exposed Coleman College is asymptomatic.
  • Both of the Coleman College buildings are being cleaned and sanitized per the CDC’s disaster recovery cleaning guidelines. They will be cleared to re-open when the College resumes classes on March 30.
  • College President will issue guidance via email on the schedule and steps to re-open the building by Friday, March 20.

 

Fraga Academic Update:

  • Today we received confirmation that the individual that possibly exposed the Fraga Academic Building tested negative for Coronavirus.
  • Disaster recovery cleaning, per CDC guidelines, at the building is complete. The Fraga Academic building will be cleared to re-open when the College resumes classes on March 30.
  • College President will issue guidance via email on the schedule and steps to re-open the building by Friday, March 20.
