The IDEAStudio at West Houston Institute is committed to working with our local community on activities that promote maker education, job and career opportunities, and a more sustainable future, that is more responsible, more livable, more equitable for all people. Activities for Primary & Secondary Schools
We work with a number of teachers and staff at schools all over the Houston area, including in Alief ISD, Spring Branch ISD, Houston ISD as well as charter and private schools, to promote student creativity, staff development, and innovative learning experiences.
Support for Local Entrepreneurs & Inventors
Although we are primarily a makerspace for HCC students and faculty, we routintly work with Houston area entrepreneurs and inventors to connect them with design talent and help with the fabrication of prototypes during product development.
Projects to Improve Communities
A makerspace can be a powerful tool for change when used by communities to solve complex problems that need new and innovative approaches. We love to work with changemakers to bring our student and professional talent to the table to create positive change.

IDEAStudio is a part of the global FabLab network. As part of this group, we have aligned our activities with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals towards a better world by 2030. Every year, we select projects and donate our time and resources towards projects that support the following goals:
