MBDA
Closure Notice
On behalf of Houston Community College, it is with regret that we announce the cancellation of the federal award that funded the Houston MBDA Business Development Center.
On March 14, 2025, the Trump administration issued Executive Order 14218, Continuing the Reduction of the Federal Bureaucracy. This order directed the heads of seven agencies to eliminate all functions that are not statutorily mandated. One of these agencies was Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA). On April 29, 2025, HCC was notified of the termination of the HCC-MBDA grant effective April 17, 2025. A similar memo went across the country to other MBDA business centers and the national staff at Washington, D.C., headquarters were relieved of their assignments.
Over the past 10 years, the HCC-MBDA Business Center provided technical and business assistance to small businesses to help improve their competitiveness and assisted in accessing capital and contracts. During this time, underserved businesses were able to access $1,141 million in capital and $780 million in contracts, all through the work of our dedicated staff.
We value our service to small businesses, and welcome opportunities to continue support through our Office of Entrepreneurial Initiatives and the HCC Centers for Entrepreneurship.
