Summer Financial Aid

Enrolling in summer classes gives you the opportunity to complete more classes, earn more credits and graduate faster. Completing your degree faster will allow you to accumulate less student debt.

Popular courses often fill quickly in the Fall and Spring semesters, taking the popular courses over the summer will mean more one-on-one facetime and discussions with your professor along with smaller class sizes.

Summer sessions are often shorter than the Fall or Spring semesters, this could be a great time to complete that class you’ve been dreading. Make sure to enroll in classes within your program plan, financial aid does not cover classes outside of your program plan. Students who need to retake a class, or those who have fallen behind due to COVID-19, family emergencies, illness, etc. can make up the work and stay on track to graduate on time.

Students often take less courses over the summer compared to Fall and Spring. Taking 1-2 courses can mean more time and concentration devoted to your classes, and higher rates of success.

Students who don’t enroll over the summer often face summer brain drain, a term describing seasonal learning loss. Students who complete summer classes stay mentally stimulated and have an easier time adjusting when returning in the fall.

• Submit 23-24 FAFSA and not have any incomplete items on Financial Aid To-do List
  
  
• Be actively pursuing a degree or certificate program at HCC. Students who are enrolled at HCC for the summer term only (not enrolled in Fall or Spring semesters), are not eligible to receive aid. 
   
• Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress standards and be in good academic standing.

If you have a 23-24 FAFSA on file and no outstanding Financial Aid To-do List items, the Financial Aid Office will hold your summer classes until the Friday before you classes begins.

We strongly encourage you to enroll in classes while you await a decision for your summer aid eligibility. 

Please know that funds are not guaranteed.

Student Work-Study is part-time student employment with plenty of open positions and funding available for students who qualify.

With a Traditional Work-Study financial aid award, students can:

• Work part-time on-campus or off-campus (remote positions are available)
• Work up to 19.5 hours per week
• Earn $15.00 per hour (Work-Study award is not a lump sum payment but earned in biweekly checks)
