The Houston Community College Board of Trustees elected new officers at its regular meeting on Jan. 29, 2025.

Trustee Eva L. Loredo is the newly elected board chair. Trustee Laolu Davies-Yemitan was elected vice chair while Trustee Sean Cheben was elected secretary.

Chair Loredo of District VIII is a life-long educator who enjoyed a 36-year career as an educator, starting as a teacher’s assistant before teaching grades from kindergarten through six-grade. She later served as both an assistant principal and principal of Gallegos Elementary School.

“I always believe I am here because of the students,” Chair Loredo said, noting that she is in her 15th year as a board member. “I want to make a difference. With God’s help and with all of you, I know we’re going to do great things.”

Vice Chair Davies-Yemitan is principal of Five Woods Realty, a community development firm specializing in building workforce housing and urban in-fill single and multifamily housing for working and middle-class families. He represents District IV.

Secretary Cheben, who represents District V, is a chemical engineer and has held roles across engineering, operations, project management, strategy and team leadership.

“We are fortunate to have these dedicated leaders agree to serve in these vital leadership roles,” said Chancellor Margaret Ford Fisher, Ed.D. “Their passion for public service and HCC's mission is inspiring and helps empower our students to advance personally and professionally. They each are making an enormous difference in our community.”

At the meeting, Dr. Ford Fisher also thanked outgoing Board Chair Dr. Cynthia Lenton-Gary for her service over the past year, citing her devotion to HCC and the college’s mission. Trustee Lenton-Gary represents District VII.
