Letter to HCC Eagles from new Interim Chancellor Dr. Margaret Ford Fisher
Sep 1, 2023
Dear HCC Eagles:
I assume the role of Interim Chancellor of the Houston Community College (HCC) System with a keen sense of purpose and gratitude to the HCC Board of Trustees for the confidence placed in me indicated by this appointment. I welcome the opportunity to work with the outstanding HCC faculty and staff to effect positive change in the lives of students and the community.
When I arrived at HCC nearly four decades ago, I began as an English professor. Thereafter, my journey led to serving as President of the HCC Northeast College and, more recently, the inaugural President of HCC Online College. Every step of my journey at HCC has been a building block to another extraordinary opportunity. Likewise, our goal for you is that each step of your educational pursuits at HCC will take you higher and closer to personal aspirations.
As we navigate the path ahead, our focus shall remain anchored on creating a "Real World Education for a Talent Strong Houston." We will build innovative programs, remove barriers, and expand opportunities to help all students achieve their goals. We will make HCC more accessible by simplifying our processes, improving our support services, and harnessing the power of mobile technology and innovation to ensure that every student can thrive.
Our focus has been—and remains—to give you the best possible experience as you pursue your dreams through higher education at HCC. You are more than just a number. We believe in providing relevant, transformative education to everyone we serve, regardless of their previous educational experiences. We further believe in the power of credentials that will open doors and positively change lives.
I am excited to serve as your Interim Chancellor as we help create pathways to success, fostering innovation and an environment which empowers all students to reach their fullest potential. As we succeed in that mission, we will help build a brighter future for Houston and our surrounding region.
I look forward to seeing you on campus!
Sincerely,
Magaret Ford Fisher, Ed.D.
Interim Chancellor
